29 Ekim 2016 Cumhuriyet Bayramı Resepsiyon Konuşması

Hatun Demirer 29.10.2016
Royal Highness Sh. Khalifa bin Rashid Al Khalifa,
Royal Highness Sh. Khalifa bin Ali Al Khalifa,
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

I warmly welcome you all.

Today, we are celebrating the 93rd anniversary of the Republic of Turkey.

I congratulate the Turkish community living in Bahrain and thank you all for being here and sharing our happiness.

I would also like to present my sincere thanks to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Excellencies Ministers, Excellencies Ambassadors, Excellencies Parliamentarians, distinguished members of the business world and many other friends of Turkey for their kind messages of congratulations on our national day.

This is my third national day reception in this lovely Kingdom.

Since last October many things happened in the region and in Turkey.

We had been through sad days caused by back to back DEASH and PKK terror attacks.

They meant to harm and scare us.

They meant to frighten our friends visiting Turkey.

Did they succeed? Certainly not!

On the contrary, they strengthened our determination to eradicate all kinds of terrorism in our country and in the region.

Their malicious acts reinforced our resilience.

The coup d’etat attempt of 15 July was another threat that we had to cope with.

Our democracy was on the target. Our legitimately elected government was on the target. It was us, the Turkish people and our conscious choices were the target.

But that night, for the first time in its recent history, our nation was the one saying the last word:

“No, not any more coups!”

Despite some misconceptions about Turkey, democratic culture is so strong in our country that any threat against it is inherently destined to fail.

In 2015 elections, the voter turnout was over 85% in Turkey.

This should mean something for those who try to analyze and understand Turkey.

That’s why, on that unfortunate night, Turkish nation did not hesitate to revolt against the coup plotters and defend democracy and constitutional legitimacy.

After that night, too, millions of Turkish people all around the country continued to say “NO” by keeping democracy vigils for 27 consecutive nights.

And for that, Turkish people deserve all the praise.

And there are some countries and people, like Bahrain and Bahrainis, who deserve the praise and mentioning on this happy day.

I am proud to express that during those hard times, the Kingdom of Bahrain stood by us from the very first moment on. His Majesty the King was the first leader from the region and the Arab world to pay an official visit to Turkey.

Bahrain, with its principled stance in strongly rejecting any attempt to undermine the constitutional legitimacy in Turkey, it became as big as the world for us.

That’s why I am proud to serve the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish nation as an Ambassador.

And, equally proud I am to serve here in the lovely Kingdom which is a great country with great people.

Thank you.

Kemal Demirciler Ambassador
